MY KIND OF NUDE

✎ Monday, 4 August 2014

I'm the type of person who likes to do things backwards. My first ever lipstick purchase was this lipstick in the shade 'Spellbound', a bright fuchsia pink. Whilst others steer clear of the bolds when first delving into make up I was addicted and completely afraid of any type of nude shade. Weird, right? But as a blogger I slowly started buying more and more shades that were (kind of) nude and here we are.

We will start with the beginning with my first lip colour on a more natural side being Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Honey. This was a much raved about shade when the line first launched and for good reason too. It has the ability to even out your lip colour, give them a subtle flush of colour without looking like you're wearing too much. My lips are quite pigmented but I do have some scarring on my upper lip so this is one of my favourite shades to wear everyday. Another nude shade that I purchased early on, very unsurely, was Mac Creme Cup. A shade that is very well loved and for good reason. The finish is comfortable, light and the shade is the perfect light pink that doesn't even slightly pull concealer-like on the lips. This is a great one to just have in your handbag to whack on if you're running late. I adore this paired with the Innoxa Antioxidant Lip Glaze in Guava for the ultimate nude lip combination. For a girl who doesn't really love nude this one is fantastic, non-sticky, smooth and comfortable to wear.

The Maxfactor Lipfinity in 210 Endlessly Mesmerizing* is a fantastic long-lasting formulation that is slightly more intimating for me. As I said early, my lips are quite pigmented so this takes alot of building up to look right on my lips. Still, once on it's a gorgeous! I adore this one topped with my Rimmel Apocalips in Phenomeon* which I cannot be brave enough to wear on it's own but on top of other nude bases it's gorgeous - especially in the centre as a highlight shade.

Okay now we'll get into the shades that still scare me - I do wear them but not without feeling a little weird and not 'me'. The Maybelline Colorsensational Tantalising Taupe* is great for everyday worked into the lips but I don't love this built up heavily on me. The formulation is creamy and lovely to wear so it's another shade I keep on hand just in case I need a little something something. One that I'm still not 100% on is the Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in Notting Hill Nude* purely because of the smell. I find it really lingers and can be a little overpowering over time. Put that aside and this is a little more brown so I prefer to wear this when I'm tanned. The most scary nude I own is the RMK Crayon & Gloss in 03* which looks completely ridiculous when swatched and when I received it I put it in the pile of give-to-a-friend. One day I was feeling really brave and decided to wear it and it's a completely love affair (see what it looks like on here). I definitely think it's an ultimate nude shade for me which is something I never thought I'd say about a colour like that and it's definitely not something I'd consider buying instore.

I know not all of these are considered nude but I think I have a good selection for days where I'm feeling brave and those when I want some tried and tested lip combinations.

What are your favourite nude lip products? I'd love to try some of your recommendations!

  1. I'm not really a nude lipstick person, but I do have a few pinky nudes. I love Milani's Nude Creme as it's creamy and comfortable to wear and is perfect for a natural look. :)

  2. Nude lipstick is one of my favourite looks I can't seem to stray from. Wish I was brave enough for a bright one! Can't beat Rimmel for lipsticks, but I do think Max Factor are quite underrated!

  3. Hi me. <3 Haha, I was the same. Red lipstick? "YAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSS." Peachy-pink? "Oh god why would I wear that?" LOVE Honey though, definitely one of my favourites. If you can get your hands on Sleek, they have a shade called Liqueur which I adooooore. And Chanel have a shade called Mademoiselle which is a major splurge, but lush.

  4. Nice selection of nudes! The ones you featured all look more wearable than the salmon/concealer shade of 'nude' that I always picture in my head. The Revlon balm stain in 'Honey' is one of my faves as well as well as 'Creme Cup'! Pinky nudes are easiest to pull off for me. :)

  9. I love Creme Cup by MAC! It's such a beautiful colour and a staple lipstick. I actually need to go repurchase mine soon as it is almost finished! My favourite nude is Coquette by Lime Crime! :) Xxx

  10. I'm exactly like you, nudes scare me so much, even if they're not even that pale, deemed 'wearable'. In most cases they look horrendous on my - clash so much and make me look dead. I've started wearing a few but really only the peachy toned ones. The RMK one is SUCH an interesting colour! Almost a little mustard-y? Glad it's working for you though!

  12. I'm the same too - I avoided nudes until recently! The first time I actually ever wore lipstick was my formal, and I asked the MUA for bright red. I knew nothing about makeup back then, now I think back I can't believe how daring that was haha

  13. Rimmel Nude Delight is a good beige nude or MAC Blankety is a nice mauve nude. I think Rimmel do awesome lip products.

  14. I am not usually the nude lip person, but I wouldn't mind trying Creme Cup - looks like that hint of pink will make it a lot more wearable.

  15. I am not really a nude lip person myself (and from the comments I can see that I am not alone :)), but Cream Cup looks like a safe choice, I may have to give it a go one day...

  16. I love how you started with bright and then worked backwards to nudes! I think that nudes should be widened to include the description 'just not that in your face' haha.

Honey is one of my favourites, but I also love Twig by MAC, a couple of slimline Ingot shades (they have numbers and I'm too lazy to get up and get them), and the new L'Oreal glamshine balm in Sin for Peach (I picked mine up in Europe earlier this year and I've been addicted).

  17. In autumn months I use Mac Creme Cup with Revlon Bellini lipgloss on top, but in the summer, I prefer Mac Creme De Nude, alone or with Mac lipglass in Softly Lit!
Tantalising Taupe looks nice too! :)

  20. If I'm honest with you, and this is going to sound crazy, I've never considered myself a lipstick person but alas my first 5 lipsticks where by mac: Rooby Woo, Diva, Craving, Speak Louder and Ladybug. I had a 180º turn and I'm loving nudes lately. I don't feel as bold as I used to to go around rocking ruby woo to the grocery store so nudes are the safest bet.

  21. I was totally the same with lipstick. Before I knew what I was doing with make up, I used to wear a bright red Rimmel lipstick every single day. Now that I wear mostly nudes, I'm a bit wary of the brighter shades - love this little selection though!
